The Voice is preparing for its 30th season with a new coaching lineup, as Queen Latifah and Riley Green join returning coaches Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine. NBC’s first trailer for the upcoming season previews musical competition, playful rivalry and several unusual moments on set.
Season 30 begins with a three-night premiere event starting Monday, September 21, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. New episodes are also scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday during premiere week, with each episode available to stream on Peacock the following day.
The trailer presents Queen Latifah and Green as the newest additions to the red chairs. Latifah wastes no time establishing her competitive approach, declaring that the other coaches are “going down” while making a pitch to an artist after a performance of “I Put a Spell on You.” She praises the singer’s distinctive voice and control before positioning herself as the coach who can lead a winning team.
Her arrival quickly concerns the returning coaches. A crowd chant supporting Latifah prompts Adam Levine to suggest that the new coach could become a serious problem, while Clarkson jokes about the threat to the established panel. The trailer also highlights Latifah’s flair for theatrical entrances, including a motorcycle ride onto the set.
Green brings a different energy to the panel, with the country singer presented as a charming newcomer who may use his appeal to attract artists. The other coaches play along with that image, and Green gets a laugh when he asks whether a compliment about his personality can be placed on his chair. His dog, Carl, also appears in the preview.
Clarkson and Levine are shown relying on their experience while refusing to make the competition easy for the newcomers. When host Carson Daly asks Clarkson whether she has advice for the first-time coaches, she answers with a joke that she hopes they lose. The trailer also shows her attempting an unconventional recruitment tactic after an artist compliments her hairstyle: she removes one of her hair extensions and offers it as an incentive to choose her team.
Alongside the coaching rivalry, NBC’s preview includes the panel answering questions, discussing the music they have been listening to and taking part in a coach roundtable with Daly. Clarkson, Levine and Green are also shown giving viewers a look at images on their phones. Another preview moment features the coaches performing along to an old-school classic by The Band.
The Blind Auditions will include Hazel Gerson performing Alex Clare’s “Too Close,” according to NBC’s season material. The network is also promoting Peacock collections of performances and highlights from Season 29, including videos featuring winner Alexia Jayy, runner-up Liv Ciara and finalists Mikenley Brown and Lucas West.
The Voice Season 30 premieres Monday, September 21, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, with the next day’s streaming release on Peacock.
