Joe Jäger made an immediate impression on The Voice of Germany when his performance of Train’s “Drops of Jupiter” prompted three coaches to turn their chairs during the Blind Auditions. The 19-year-old brought a distinctive rock edge to the stage, standing out despite his relative lack of experience.
Rock music is especially important to Jäger, making the demanding ballad a natural choice for his appearance. Performing in a stylish black outfit, he showcased a rough, individual vocal tone that made him sound more like an experienced rock singer than a newcomer.
His connection to music also reaches back to his family. Jäger’s father played music and collected guitars, an interest later shared by Joe and his three siblings. Appearing on The Voice was also a childhood ambition: he had previously recreated the show’s Blind Auditions at home.
The performance impressed Nico Santos, Michi Beck, Smudo and Rea Garvey, whose chairs all turned for the young singer. With the exception of Team Shirin David, Jäger was therefore able to choose among the coaches competing for him.
Michi Beck called him a “rockstar” and described the performance as a spectacular display. Santos highlighted the difficulty of the song and praised Jäger for bringing it to the stage with apparent ease. The coaches also emphasized how unusual it was for a 19-year-old to make the song feel so personal.
Jäger ultimately faced a choice between Rea Garvey, who offered to help him find the right musical direction, the Fantastischen Vier—Michi Beck and Smudo—who presented themselves as “Crazy Music Dads,” and Santos, who watched much of the performance visibly astonished. Jäger said he had already considered which team he wanted before stepping onstage, suggesting that his decision would not take long.
