Rea Garvey is returning to The Voice of Germany in 2026, again taking one of the show’s red coaching chairs alongside Shirin David, Nico Santos and Michi Beck and Smudo. Away from the television stage, however, his most enduring success story began with an unexpected telephone conversation and moved at remarkable speed.
Garvey met Josephine after Reamonn contacted a potential manager. The person who answered the call was his sister, and Garvey was immediately captivated by her voice. Before they had even met in person, he wrote the song “Josephine” about her. Their relationship then progressed quickly: after their first date, he wrote “Supergirl,” while he proposed when they met for the second time.
Josephine did not immediately accept the proposal, and the couple married in 2002. They later welcomed two children. Their daughter Aamor has increasingly stepped into music herself, making her singing debut on Garvey’s single “Halo” in 2024 and appearing in its video. She also joined her father publicly at the Channel Aid Charity Concert in Hamburg on October 21, 2025, where they appeared together on the red carpet.
The father and daughter later collaborated in the studio on “I Give Up I Love You,” a duet recorded for Garvey’s album “Halo.” Aamor has also established herself as an independent musician and has shared glimpses of her projects on Instagram since 2024, including appearances with her father. The family is based in Berlin.
Garvey moved from Ireland to Germany in 1998 after falling in love with the country while touring with his band The Reckless Pedestrians. He arrived without German-language skills and with 50 Deutsche Marks, later working as a roadie and singer before placing an advertisement seeking a band for recording and touring. That effort led to the formation of Reamonn, whose five albums all reached the German Top Ten. The group ended its run in 2010, after a greatest-hits release and farewell tour.
He then built a solo career while expanding into television. Garvey joined The Voice of Germany as a coach in its first season in 2011 and later became the winning coach with Nick Howard in the second season. He has since returned to the programme several more times, including the upcoming 16th season. He has also served repeatedly on The Masked Singer’s panel and appeared on other German television formats.
Alongside music and television, Garvey has supported social initiatives for many years. He co-founded the charity Saving an Angel with Reamonn and is an ambassador for the Clearwater Project, which provides water-treatment systems for communities in Ecuador’s Amazon region. His 2025 book and studio album, both titled “Before I Met Supergirl,” revisit his upbringing in Ireland, his family life and the experiences that shaped his career.
